New theatre performance: 'It Won’t Be Long Now' (明日陽光璨爛)

A new theatre piece, consisting of two solo shows, set in Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation of the 1940s. A Cantonese performer portrays different stories of Hong Kongers during that time, exploring a wide range of perspectives of the difficult lives and struggles of ordinary people. It is followed by an English version, from the view of several prisoners of war incarcerated in the Sham Shui Po Barracks, telling stories of imprisonment, hunger and exile and of irrational optimism conquering doubt and despair. 'It Won’t Be Long Now' reveals the enduring humanity and will to survive that still exists when everything else has been stripped away.
Performed by Bill Aitchison & Indy Lee in English and Cantonese with sur-titles in both languages.

This event was organised by students on the Engaging the Modern City module as part of their collaboration with the Performance Ensemble.
